I have several wall lights the thickish glass shades of which are a bit smaller than an avocado. The bulbs are G9 Halogen Capsules. The shades get hot but I can grasp them without discomfort. The lowest wattage I can find is 19w but even with this the glare is too much. I would like to reduce the glare.

Can you get heat resistant coloured paint?

Why not use a dimmer switch?

If you paint the glass shades won't they just become uplights (and potentially provide too little light)?

Alternatively, you could (at cost) replace the halogens with the weakest G9 LED bulbs that you can find.
