Hi everyone,
We are decorating our living room and have decided to get the walls skimmed, after taking off 10 layers of painted wallpaper, nightmare!
Anyway the chimney stack render basically fell off so we are getting that done aswell it's down to brick.
We have an inset wall gas fire, kinder rocco mk2 to be exact.
Do we need to use heat resistant plasterboard and finish? If something is needed can we use normal plasterboard and then the vitcas heat resistant plaster on top?
Any ideas?
The plasterer says he's used normal board and skim on other jobs and it should be ok but it's up to us

I thought skimmed plasterboard is half hour fire resistant anyway.

id use a fireboard just for the sake of it,
but normal pb should be fine.

I take it that the stack is made of brickwork? if so then the bricks will disperse any heat from the flue.

The fire should have a flue liner, that in turn will hold the worst effects of hot gas from getting near any surface finishes.

When the "render" fell off was the render a dark colour on the surface which had been adhering to the bricks?

Any large gaps in the cement pointing in the brick stack??

Ken.

Thanks for your replies.
Ken, I'm not sure of the render colour I don't think it was dark but the pointing isn't great on the chimney.
The fire has a flue liner, I was just worried about any heat from the front of the fire
