Height Of Extractor Fan Cowl

Guys,
Extractor fan fitted to Warm flat roof.
Are there any given height guidlines for how high up the cowl should be from the roof?

It's a long shot, but do you think the installation instructions might specify a max and min distance?

If life were that easy.
The extractor fan is on my ceiling, connected to a piece of plastic tubing which then connects to a plastic 4" pipe which routes through the roof and then will fit my mushroom cowl.
All I need is height of 4" pipe before I place mushroom cowl on top.
