I had my downstairs damp proofed due to rising damp. Discovered damp hearth. Old fire place blocked up and damp proofed. Roofer doesn’t seem to think it’s the chimney. I work away, when I’m away and no heating or water is used it still gets damp. Any ideas?

Does the old chimney stack have ventilation?
knock it up put a damp proof membrane down then recover ,probably only a few inches thick and probably soft
