Hi Several years ago my husband and I refurbished an old house and found a very dark varnish that dried to a good hard gloss finish for the banister. Unfortunately that is now past its best and I have removed the varnish and sanded down with wire wool. I believe the wood has sometime in the past been burned with a blow torch. Can anyone recommend a dark high gloss finish that I can apply. I can only find Ronseal varnish in the shops and I am not sure if this will do the job or not.
