Hi, I've just moved into a new house and I'd like to find out what this grey box thing with a knob with three red lines on it is, that is fitted under the sink (make and model if possible). There is a dish washer to the left.

. It is plugged into mains socket - I'm not sure if it is a water softener (I'm intending fitting a salt based one when I get round to it). Many Thanks

the thing with three red lines is an isolating valve for your dishwasher, the grey box is part of the dishwasher inlet hose and it is an antiflood device.

Great thanks - you learn something every day :) I'm going to be taking out the dish washer which is only a 3/4 job and really no use to me. I'll use the space for the water softener, as there isn't room under the sink as it is.
