HELP needed lightening a pine unit

Hi

I have recently moved and have loads of lovely modern stuff in my house then i have this old varnished pine unit and it looks really tacky now agaist all the new stuff.

Does anyone have any tips for what i can put on it to either make it white or like a real light wood or what to do i have no idea and dont wanna mess it up if i attempt something

I would have the varnish removed then just wax and polish it now and then. To try and put lights in it will devalue it. You'll be surprised how much better the wood will look waxed.
