Hi

We rent a big old house which was refurbished in 2008 by the landlords who planned to sell it. They couldn't sell so we rented it and have since found a few things that it wouyld be fair to say were fitted with the plan that the place would be sold not rented!

Anyway - over Christmas the hot water went off twice - all we could get was cold water to the kitchen sink, so it seemed it wasn't reaching the boiler at the other side of the kitchen. It came back on after 24 hours or so each time. We've kept the heating on 24/7 since then, but can feel cold air beneath the cooker.

As of this morning (minus 10 here) - no water whatsoever - none. Total nightmare especially as we have a baby.

Landlord is a plumber (who fitted the system here) and tells us there's nothing we can do but try and get hot air into the cupboard under the sink where the pipework comes in. There doesn't seem to be any other access. Have had cooker on since 6am, 20 degree heating on plus a hot air fan but all to no avail.

Daren't leave the fan heater on overnight. Is there anything else at all we should be doing, or that the landlord should be doing, or any advice at all please? Can't help but wonder if the pipes have been properly lagged (if that's the right word!) and why we can feel such a draught in from under the cooker..

if the cooker is gas i wouldnt leave it on that long as they are not designed to be on for long periods hence the reason for no flue.

Thanks - it's electric but appreciate it could still be a fire risk, will turn off shortly before bed.

Chances are that the floorboarding beneath the cooker and any other kitchen units will have been smashed up and left with gaping holes in them, which is allowing cold air in from ant airbricks. This has had the added "advantage" of freezing the pipes. If you can block the airbricks up with something then it may help a little.
