help! painting mdf

Hi all

can i paint mdf paneling with emulsion paint or do i need to use a special primer first, only its quite a big area.

You can get away with using thinned emulsion (vinyl type)...or you could use a mdf primer...which is normally a glorified acrylic...personally id primer it with oil based primer...or thinned out oil based undercoat as water based paints tend to make the fibres in the mdf swell up quite badly.
