My faithfull C & M Britony has developed a weep from the safety valve after I inadvertantly over pressured the system after a radiator move.
I assume I need a replacement ( or am I wrong ? ).
where is the best place to get one.......???????

Should get one from HRP , dead easy to fit once boiler empty it is only held in place with a grub screw on boiler and nut on outlet pipe

Screw the nut on the bottom of the PRV in to lift it off the seat and depressurise the system then undo the bottom half using large flats on brass body.
Clean the rubber seat and turn the washer over if nescessary then refit and tighten just over hand tight then undo the little brass nut again and dont touch anything else. Dont even press it just undo the nut.
Repressurise system
Good luck

MMM my valve is a black plastic one with 2 reinforced pipes ( held in by large clips) going in the side of it. It is attached to the body of the boiler with another ( bigger ) clip. the outlet is at the bottom and there is a red platic part opposite the large clip end???

Ha! It's an SE model (would help if you identified it at the beginning). Ignore previous comments. The PRV is integral to the manifold with the flexible pipe connections. You have to take out the whole gubbins and you could try cleaning or reversing the PRV washer as mentioned above.

You may find that you can lift the piston a few times with the system pressurised and that MIGHT clean the dirt off the seat and stop it leaking.

If not then it will have to be changed.

Say NO to plastic boilers!

How do I open the valve manually?
is it underneath the red thing?

Twist the red knob, but it could start vibrating violently!

But make sure the discharge pipe is connected and discharging safely outside.

Thats it !!! Jobs a good un...
opened valve a couple of times and loads of black water came out, then clear water... released and all sealed up again..

Cheers......

George :D

By the way guys how come Chaff can get away with a bit of clear plastic tube stuffed on the end of their blow off.
Do you think they have ever seen super heated water at 3 bar before :!:

I wondered about that as well? but thats the way it is. And is correct as per the installation blurb. I assume that they assume the outlet pipe would Never get blocked!!!!!!!

Has anyone ever seen super heated water at 3 bar? All the discharges that I've witnessed have been dribbles at little more than room temperature. Anyway once released by the PRV any discharge would be at atmospheric pressure and no more than 100°C, although some of it may be steam. I don't see why their bit of plastic tube shouldn't cope. If the manufacturer says it's OK, it's OK.

Interestingly when the Chaffoteaux Britony was branded as the Baxi Genesis the MI produced by Baxi passed the same plastic tube off as being for flushing purposes! They prescribed an all metal discharge pipe even though Chaffoteaux were simultaneously showing the plastic pipe as suitable.

I was merely asking the question Chris. No need to jump on your oss about it. Obvously if they say its ok then who am I to argue.
Just wondered why ever other blow off is usually copper.
And no I havent see super heated water from a blowoff. Again it is a possibilty though and I cant see that pipe staying on thats all
Was just sparking debate

My pipe stayed on with the valve open and the system at almost full cold water pressure. just a lot of water coming out!
