I think the original link must have been wrong. It seems to have combined the NIESR with the right wing Institute of Economic Affairs to create the "National Institute for Economic Affairs" which doesn't exist.

Some worrying ideas being considered.

VAT on private health care. So anyone who can’t get an NHS dentist, now has 20% more to pay.

It will also make private healthcare less affordable and increase the burden on the NHS as well as encouraging Consultants to go elsewhere for private clients.

I wonder if it will extend to people in care homes who have to pay for their own care while subsidising those who get it for free.

Wealth tax - easily avoided by the rich and will just sit there with the threshold reduced by inflation and policy until it catches more and more people.

Replace “state” with “tax payer”

Young people paying tax today may not benefit from a state pension that exists today. It seems unfair for them to pay.

When growth isn’t there and the tax payer is already squeezed. You have only two choices

Recruit more tax payers or cut spending.
