Hive multi-zone underfloor heating

Hi All

We've had underfloor heating installed and added a multiroom thermostat and receiver. The receiver is by the manifold for the underfloor heating and turns on the pump and opens the valve. I was under the impression that the HUB would send a signal to the receiver at the boiler to fire up the boiler but apparently this is not the case!

So I need a way of getting the boiler to fire up on this zone.

Running a single core cable could be problematic. Does anyone know of a wireless send / receive pair that would do the the job?

Hive do TRV heads which send a "demand for heat" to the wall thermostat, and the actuator head of under floor heating does look very like a TRV head, but never tried swapping actuator and TRV heads.

The point is the TRV head is placed at the side of a radiator so natural air currents circulate the air so it measures reasonable accurate room temperature, where the actuator head may be no where near the thermals produced by under floor heating, but it does seem Hive has some options, likely best option is to ask Hive.

In theory the Hive wall thermostat can receive a signal to start the boiler, this is exactly what the Hive TVR does, but not sure if Hive does a special for UFH?

Any heating needs designing rather than being thrown together, and UFH takes a long time to heat and cool, so in the main it is used with radiators not instead, however the Hive TRV does switch on the wall thermostat so likely it would work even if not fitted to a radiator, but the TRV and actuator head look very similar so it may replace the actuator head.

However the time to work out what works with what is before you start, not after completed. EPH have designed thermostats with a master slave system that will control a boiler using opentherm, but time to select control system is in the design stage, not after all up and running.

Is the valve a two port zone valve, or motorised valve? At present your receiver opens this valve, and it turns on the pump (and boiler), so there must already be a control signal from the UFH to the boiler.
The usual way to call for the boiler is to have the receiver drive the valve open, then the end-switch (microswitch) on the valve calls for the boiler (and the pump directly or via the boiler demand).

In your case it is simply a matter of wiring the new 'receiver/hub' to open the valve.

I am assuming the system has been working previous to the new parts being fitted. If it's an entirely new system then full details are required.
