Hive thermostat and Philips hub

I'm pretty sure Hive requires the base unit/hub to work because it's the hub that sends the signal to the control unit for hw/ch to turn on. I know that you can connect Hive to Smartthings and the philips hub uses some of the same protocols but unlikely that someone will have written the device handlers (code) to get any meaningful integration out of the Hive + Hue combination.
