Would appreciate some help- my washer dryer- Select any programme and always the fan runs and drain pump runs but nothing on display. No response to any buttons.

thank you

When you say "any program" do you mean both wash & drying cycles? If yes then I would suspect a pcb problem.
Does your control panel have LCD display?

Hi Zipper,
thanks for your prompt response.

Yes it does have lcd display/control panel board linked to main pcb at base of machine by flat multicore cable.

sequence is: connect to mains, move programme selector knob from 'off' to any programme, drying or washing, and dryer fan runs together with drain pump. LCD display/ button leds all remain off. No response from any button.
sometimes when switching programme selector back to 'off', all display & all button led's briefly illuminate.

I wonder if fan on/ pump on is some default condition for safety.

Have checked dryer thermistor/amp tag connections to thermistor, overheat stats (2), plus dryer element- all Ok.

With a blank display of course no error code(s) are available.

your thoughts appreciated

Tony

No it isn't a default safety condition. I am afraid it sounds very much like you will have to change out the main pcb & display module :(
These models have had some problems with a low IR test on the wash heater element causing glitches with the pcb, but I don't think this is at the root of your problem. Hoover Candy electronics are notoriously unreliable.

Hi Zipper,
thank you for your thoughts- sorry for delay in responding but lap top decided to play up- never rains but....

yes i guess board change is looking likely, i thought i would check over all board wiring connections first of all. Apart from that???

thanks

Tony

You could remove the main pcb (noting where all the connectors go) & check for obvious damage, but I would assume there a still a serious malfunction on it even if you don't find any blown components/tracks etc. The user interface is supplied by a ribbon cable from J12 on the main pcb. If the main pcb was in order you would have a display (doubtful both went down at the same time). But there is no way the pump & dryer fan should run as soon as you move the selector to a program, everything points to a seriously wonky pcb. The pcb costs around £75 & the user interface £40. I always change both but that's your call. It looks like this machine was produced in 2009. Be very careful if you do decide to order parts, you need a pre-programmed 32k coreboard & be sure to quote the serial number/product code (there are 3 different pcb versions). Or post the data here & I'll give you the correct P/N's.

here we are again, thank you for your help, changed boards and hey presto it all works..........until the machine stopped working.

this time select any programme on selector dial and press 'start'.

nothing happens except door lock light flashes on and off repeatedly.

no change to program info on lcd display.

thought ah! must be lock, so changed that, no difference made.

Would be really grateful for any thoughts.

regards

Tony

No error code? Are you sure you got the right pcb?
It is very easy to order the wrong pcb with these machines. Post the s/n & product code from the door sticker (+ the part numbers you ordered) so I can check.

thank you again for your prompt reply and support-very much appreciated.
Yes, no error codes- the display remains with the normal correct info but the door lock light flashes.
Got a bit desperate and, having replaced the door lock mech without success, I looked for a simply solution.

I wondered if the cast alloy latch on the door was adequately engaged in the lock with door shut. So i closed door and pulled door towards RHS of machine to increase penetration of latch into switch mech.

Bingo, as soon as I pulled the door over to RHS, I heard a click and away went machine properly.

Clearly this fault doesn't result in an error code.

i would like your assistance to be properly "thanked" Do I need to do something for this to happen

thanks

Tony

Good you've got a sense of humour.....

What I mean't was that on your info box is says thanked 463 times- I'd like that to be 464 & I don't know if I need to do something.

also I need to keep you happy cos the ...... thing will break down again next week!!!

I'm always (or nearly always) happy so no more thanks necessary.
But if you want to quote or thank anyone in the future just log in, pick the answer you want to remark then simply click in one of the 4 relevant boxes in the top RH side of it
