hot water and shower probs

Can anyone give me any advise i have a protherm combi boiler was ok although kept switching off and had to reset which somtimes took awhile. Now wont switch to hot water at the same time my shower wont heat up are the two connected. Have heard could be system needs cleaning how do i go about that. also heard water pressure may be low is this somthing that can be rectified by a complete amateur. Any help and advise would be greatly appriciated.

Hi you did not mention if the boiler is resetting it's self. I had a similar problem where my hot stopped. My boiler would run for about 30 seconds switch off and then after a short period start again. This was while the hot tap was on.
I live in a hard water area and cured the fault by removing the DHW heat exchanger and de scaling it.
I now do this once a year. I don't know what model your boiler is but all I do is turn off the boiler, drain down the Central heating, remove the heat exchanger, de scale and put everything back not forgetting to replace the fibre washers on all joints. Be careful filling up the boiler as air can get trapped in the small bore pipes so fill up slowly
