hot water doesn't heat unless CH is on

it's coming up to the "warmer" months and I've had a problem with my boiler for a couple of years and never got round to sorting it out. in the winter when the central heating AND hot water are on at the same time both work fine. It's when all I need is hot water without the heating the boiler doesn't light up and therefore doesn't heat the water in the storage cylinder.

Can anyone help?

As you haven't told us any of your system details, I assume it will be either the ch 2 port valve head, or the 3 port valve head that needs replacing.

I've got a regular condensing boiler with cold water storage cistern and hot water cylinder.
