New to the forum...hope you guys can shed some light on this.

Boiler is ancient Ideal WRS 255A conventional model. Has temp settings marked 1-6 on the boiler itself. Central heating and hot water run just fine at setting 3 (66 degrees C), but setting 6 (82 degrees C) results in hot water being purged into the overflow (back into the header tank). The system definitely needs a good clean through, but is there anything else that could be causing this?

Theory being that the boiler should never let the water actually boil, so can't see how water is being expelled via the overflow.

Thanks in advance,

For a system with a circulating pump, if it's sludged up, then it's commonplace for it to 'pump over', so your intention to have a clean out first is a good one.
