I've left it on 24/7 and I only get half a bath of fairly warm water, despite the boiler thermostat being cranked up to 80, the thermo is around the bottom (cooler)part of the boiler held in place with a metal strap, system is a potterton neta heat profile 50e and I have had to press the reset button to get the gas burner to light.
thanks for the clarification pics, the tank is standard copper tank with an imersion heater and one element -I think, the second pic resembles a device on the central heating pipe near the water pump, my system has a randall 30 22 time switch that is quite noisy, possibly fitted in about 1970 with two settings, one gives prioroty to the heating the other for hot water, naturally it is set at the water setting
