Hot water problem

Hi, we have an oil fired hot water/heating system, but it only fires up if both the hot water and heating are selected, it is not possible to get hot water on it's own, any ideas?

Probably the microswitch gone in the hw zone vavle head. This is usually in the airing cupboard next to the cylinder.

You will either have a 3 port valve or 2 2 port valves.
