Hey mr boner, just get the ring spanner on the immersion and just whack it with a lump hammer:) now don't say you don't get advice :)

Here is a bit more advice!

Before you wack it leave the tank full !

The weight and pressure of the water will help to hold its shape and stop it moving around.

As soon as you get a few degrees of movement then drain it down to just below the top of the cylinder.

More advice would be to listen to it with a listening stick but unless you have experience of the different sounds that may not tell you much.

When they are in good condition you will hear as 100 Hz hum and a gentle lower frequency hissing.

Most electricians will happily connect them up but most will be reluctant to remove them unless they try first and see if they come out easily.

Most plumbers will remove them and many ( but not all ) will be reasonably competent to connect them.

But if you don't try to do it yourself, make sure you ask anyone you call if they can complete all aspects !

If buying the element an incoloy one gives longer life!
