Hotpoint Aqarius WML 540

My Niece has a two year old Hotpoint Aquarius WML 540 which wont empty, and shows flashing lights on the front Any ideas as to where the fault could be:- blockage/pump fault/brushes etc? I haven't had chance to do any checks but will after christmas when spare parts are available should it need them.

Undo the filter at the front right under the kick strip. there will be rubbbish in there.
