Hello,
I just replaced the bearings on my Hotpoint WF840 (what a bloomin' job that was) but before I put it back together, was wondering if I should grease the spindle, or will that affect the water-tightness of the seal?

Thanks

Only a smidge of grease on the spindle so it slides in though the bearings.

No, don't grease the shaft. The seal on these machines is in 2 parts, an outer part which is a tight fit in the bearing housing and an inner part which grips the shaft and turns with the drum. The seal assembly should come ready greased so no lubricant is needed. I always put a drop of oil on the outside of the new bearings to make them easier to press in.
