Hi, I have an old house around 1910 I think.
I can't see any access hatch to crawl space - would it normally be behind the front door?
That is tiled,.

If I want to know the condition of joists etc what is the best way?

Is it some specialist survey?

Thanks

What makes you think you’ve got a crawlspace? you could simply lift the floorboard to see below.

A skinny plumber got down there a couple of years ago between the joists.
I have no chance of doing the same!

I did see some wooden shims under the floorboards that were soaking wet though, I am not sure why they were there.

Not really. The standard approach with floorboards is to cut one (or more often a shortish piece between two or three joists) out with a multitool, circular saw or jigsaw and stick your head or phone in down there. You can drill a hole and pop an endoscope camera down there, too if you really want to get someone in

There is rarely an access hatch to an under floor space
