Try Brasso Duraglit.
It may need a good scrub with it, but it should come off.

I tried mineral spirits but no luck. I had some homer formby's furniture conditioner and tried that it worked really well. The active ingredients include acetone and toluene. I'm not sure if it is either or both of these ingredients that did the job.
what you call Rubbing Alcohol will do it.
We use a thing called methylated spirits (meths) which is another alcohol product.
Ballpoint pen ink dissolves in alcohol.
You could probably do it with Vodka on a cotton rag.
