I am installing a quarry tile floor in my garden room using some reclaimed quarry tiles.

The floor area is approx 27sq/m and I intend to lay the tiles on a bed of mortar 1/2" thick.

How do I calculate how much sand/cement to buy?

This is a bit open ended because it depends on the strength of mix you intend to use. Generally for this kind of job a mix of about 4 sand to 1 cement should be ok so I would get yourself 3 bags of cement and 12 bags of sand for starters and you will soon be able to work out how much more you may need as you use it.Good luck.

Another guide you can do...........

Sand thickness 1/2" = 13mm therefore 27 x 13mm = .350 cu metre, approx 1/3 cubic metre.
