how to calculate a pipe run length

how can I calculate the length of pipe I'll need for a new pipe run?
Running a tape up the wall and across to the cistern it's about 1 metre but is there a "correct" method or should I just eyeball it?

Get some body else to take the measurment for you then you can blame them if its wronge
