Hi,

I've just had a new cylinder installed, and pointed out to the plumber that the length of pipe used to cap off the cylinder return wasn't needed. The pipe is hot to touch and I assume is causing unnecessary heat loss, even when insulated.

He agreed, but couldn't seem to work out how to cap it off closer to the cylinder even after a visit to the local screwfix for parts. Is it normal to cap it off closer to the cylinder? If not, then why not - is the heat loss actually minimal?

Thanks!

If the cylinder has preformed compression connections a compression blanking disc could be used but the heat loss from a 2 or 3" stub really won't matter.
