Hi all,

I have a path in the garden made of these grey pavers and I want to put another in to match. I think that's easy for the straight lines, but where there's a significant bend the last person managed to cut the slivers of the pavers rather neatly.

How would I go about doing the same? I'd rather not use a scary disc cutter - are there alternatives?

You can hire a block splitter, but it would be tricky to get very small accurate cuts.

A disc cutter is the neatest option.
A small angle grinder would just about do it.
Or a wet tile cutting saw.

I'd say grinder is a bit safer, whilst there's a risk of kickback, a small 115mm grinder is quite manageable, be sure to be wearing the correct PPE, mask and safety specs.

The other option is to mortar between the joints, but you'd have to try and match the mortar colour, and it won't be as durable.

Not sure a wet tile cutter will be able to cut deep enough. Not sure that a 115 angle grinder will either, but I guess in both cases the blocks can be cut from top and bottom.

Yes cutting capacity of a small grinder is what - about 45mm? Big grinder is probably the way to go, they're not so bad, just buy a brand new decent blade, all the safety gear is a must IMO. I picked up a Titan for about £20 secondhand, works just fine for DIY, you'd be able to flog it on again for the same price.

For a nervous novice, I'd recommend starting with a low power machine 750w is easier to manage.
There's a lot of torque in a 9 incher!

The blocks can still be broken apart once it's grooved both sides, granted it is more work.
