How to fix a tongue and groove ceiling to rigid board insulation

I am creating a vaulted ceiling, rigid board insulation will be fixed on top of the rafters (forming an air gap with the slates). I'd like the final ceiling finish to be tongue and groove wood cladding. Probably running vertically, rather than horizontally.

I'm just not sure how I'd go about about fixing the T&Gs through the thick Ridid board to the roof timbers securely.

The solution I've come up with is that I could counter batten rafters once and then again, (creating sections of 100mm deep) and then attach the boards to that. That'll expose a frame onto which I can attach the T&Gs.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Is T&G cladding a good idea for fire safety? Think non-combustible floor and ceiling surfaces are generally preferred.

Not as bad as the polystyrene tiles back in the good old days though!

The info I found from a quick google all relates to its use on the outside of buildings, which it appears isn't allowed beyond 18m.

Don't think many are using timber on ceilings these days. Plastic planks are used commercially, hopefully these are some kind of special grade but you never know.

Counter-battens. (y)

I like that, but I am actually wanting real wood up there. I was going to go with British Cedar. I'm looking into fire retardant coatings, and will also use plasterboard under as advised above.
