How to form a dormer

Hi, I am new to this forum and would appreciate any advice you can offer. I am hoping to construct a dormer, most likely with a hip roof, and wondered if there are any 'how to guides' on setting-out / constructing dormers. Does anyone know if there are any useful websites, videos or books out there that specifically deal with this subject ( preferably with lots of pictures and diagrams )? Any advice offered would be most appreciated.

i think constructing a dormer to be quite a challenging task (i've not done roofing). it's probably the No1 putting me off doing a loft conversion (the house is open to the elements to a certain extent).

the following library books are worth a read:

Roof Construction & Loft Conversion, C N Mindham

this website is worth a quick look. there are also a few existing posts on the forum on loft conversion (Duzzer and Mikell that i know of)
