Hi all,

I recently stripped the wallpaper in a room and all of my walls were left as in the image below, with a mixture of bare plaster and old paint.

I want to paint these walls and was wondering how I should best approach preparing them for painting? Ideally I'd like to avoid lining paper (I have no faith in myself to get it seamless).

Any advice much appreciated.

Thanks,
Ryan.

Depends how raised the old paint is if it shows a ridge it will scream at you when painted, sanding ad a heavy lining paper would be my approach, but if you want to avoid papering try sanding and using something like Polycell Basecoat works quite well when I have used it for a quick turnaround.(y)

It's not very raised, looks like a single layer of paint to me, less than 1mm thick - dunno how visible it is but there's an angled pic below.

Reckon the base coat will work in this case?

Cheers.

As long as you remove any loose and feather the edges with sanding I reckon you should get a fair result.(y)

I decided I wouldn't be able to deal with any visible lines after painting so instead brushed all the paint with sugar soap, left it for a while then took it off using a scraper, did some very light damage to the plaster in small areas while scraping but will fix that with surface filler.

Feeling much better about it now!
