Hello,

I have a problem with outside my flat, the drain for my kitchen sink seems to be rising outside, I am wanting to drain the excess water away to have a look, is there anything i can buy to do this? i.e some sort of pump?

Thanks

I don't understand what you mean, but a "wet" vac does a great job of sucking up a couple of gallons at a time, <£40 in the sheds. Cheaper are the little pumps you can get which go on an electric drill - not so great, though they do work.

The Pound shop sell the drill pumps for yes you guessed it £1, I think they would work well for small jobs but not for larger jobs like ponds etc.
You could try Halfords for a squeezy hand pump usually made for emptying your petrol tank.
If you opt for the drill pump dont forget you need to buy the hose attatchments at 99p and a short piece of hosepipe.

When you say drill pump, is it a manual thing you are talking about?

I shall try and explain it a bit better.

The water that comes out of my kitchen, ie, sink dishwasher washing machine etc, goes out a pipe at the back of my house and meets the gutter from the roof to empty down the drain. This is blocked and we can't see anything but cloudy water, so i want to drain this out to see if we can see anything blocking it and hopefully fix it ourselves...

Flat is old built 1896

A drill pump has got two hoses with the pump in the middle, put one hose down the drain and the other to another drain (or somewhere its not going to come back to blocked drain) attach drill to spindle and turn on drill (making sure directions right  )

You should also try lifting the nearest manhole cover and check for blockages. As above a long rubber glove is the best way to go, don`t bother with a pump, it will probably be a combination of fat and detergents. A rake around with a knife should clear it, followed by a bucket of water. Thenwatch it run down the manhole.
