Hi all,
Ive got silicate masonry paint on slate window sills and metal roof. How best to remove it? Will it come off with water and a lot of scrubbing with wire wool maybe? Or a blade? Perhaps something else? Its in really awkward places and Ill be on a ladder :cautious:
Thanks

If the paint is water based then use very hot water and soap and will come off quick.

If its solvent / oil based use a paint thinner or acetone let it soak for 15 min.

You could get away with a bit of brick acid on the glass, being as it's silica based. Use all the recommended PPE though, cut no corners.

Great, thanks guys. Even though its silicate-based, does that mean its water based? (ie: could I use very hot water as per @PJ Carpentry says?). Its certainly not oil based.
