How do you adjust and set-up an automatic bypass valve the first time? One of my TRV's whistles sometimes I think the ABV needs to be turned up but I'm not sure.

Heatiing on and all the rads on full.

Open the by-pass till water start to flow through it, turn back 1 turn.

"one turn" will vary considerably between different makes!

-------------

Find out what flow you need through the boiler as a minimum (ie only the bypass open).

Look at a pump curve such as this one in the BES cat

Say you need 0.3 litres/sec. If you're on speed 3 the pump will provide that at 4.5 metres. So set the ABV to that figure, or a tad less.

That's all there is to it if the ABV is near the pump.

There are good reasons to put the ABV at the far end of a rad circuit, in which case there will be losses in the pipes to consider.
