Hi, My boiler is a Hercal coil cylinder boiler, probably ancient but working fine apart from being very loud, is there a simple way to quieten it down. Also the central heating timer clock isn't moving around, it is a black dial with pin timer settings, at the moment I have to turn everything on manually, is there a easy way to get it to move? Thanks for any info in advance.

A lot of noise can come from air in the pipes/rads.

At the top of the boiler, is there a bleed valve..( Or a length of piping that just rises to an end stop?)

I had a similar prob years ago ( til I changed my boiler )

I flushed the system. added inhibitor, then bled everything.
it was fine. ( Til the wind kept blowing out the pilot light)

The timer can be replaced with a digital programmer for around £25- £30 ( depending on model) Many are straight forward slot in replacements that use the exisitng backplate - If not the manufacturer gives a list of conversions if you have to change it)

Hi Thanks for the advice, I think I will try and bleed the boiler because there is a dead end pipe, if you know what I mean? Thanks KA
