We are having a new kitchen fitted and are toying with the idea of not having tiles on the walls but, having a board the same design and finish as the work surface but I believe its about 10mm thick. I have seen similar used in shower areas etc. Has anyone experience of this in a kitchen environment. The board would cover the same area as would conventional tiling. I really want to hear of any advantages or drawbacks. Cheers

Do you mean tiles under the wall unit to worktop?

We have tiles at sink and cooker. Elsewhere, between worktop and cupboard, and to the same height on a few odd bits of wall, is tongue and groove - tastefully coloured to match the worktop and with beautifully crafted top and bottom trim so you don't see any edges.
No disadvantages found yet - splashes and spills, including cat pee, wipe off OK.
Advantages? Easy, cheap, colour exactly what we wanted, no grout!
