I take it you are using XP.
Do you have the icon on the desktop, if so:
Right click an empty part of the taskbar at the bottom.
Click Unlock Taskbar
Drag you icon now and drop it in the Quick Launch section next to the Start button.
You can drag and drop any program icon that you use regularly so that it will start with one click, your browser is a good one to have there.
When you have dragged each icon that you want, there will be a 2 vertical columns of dots. Left click on them and drag sideways until your icons are visible.
Then right click an empty part again and select Lock the Taskbar.
