The boiler failed a couple of weeks ago as the fan had stopped turning.
Called out a registered heating guy who fit a new fan and carried out a full service for me - great.
However, ever since the new fan, the boiler has been whistling loudly on startup for maybe 30 seconds, and does the same everytime the boiler re-lights. This resonates round the pipework and can be heard outside too.
I've found the cause but don't know how it could be cured. If I loosen the screws on the boiler cover and pull it out away from the boiler, or remove it altogether, the whilstling stops. It seems to be an air flow issue. Perhaps the new fan is more powerful than the last? The whistle only happens when the cover is in place so must be caused by a lack of air to the fan?
Any thoughts/ideas would be gratefully received - the chap who fit the fan can't come back till the new year but it can't be hard to fix?!
Cheers
Stan
