Hi all
I have a problem whihc also occurred previously. Basically when I turn hot water on I hear the boiler fan (noisy thing) kick in for about 5 seconds , there is a whoosh and I get a flame for a second before it all goes out. it tries this again 5 seconds later and keeps repeating until the boiler finally ignites. This problem happened 6 months ago to start with and I opened it up and cleaned it (no change) . then got a gas engineer in who replaced the small circuit board at front. this did seem to improve things but did not get rid of problem completely.

It is now deteriorating again

It also seems to work better when igniting via central heating controls.

Any ideas what this may be???

These are very simple boilers!

However like everything else they have to be set up correctly and it sounds to me as if your CORGI jsut did not know how to set it up.

What did he do about measuring the minimim, maximum and ignition gas pressures?

Tony

Minimum and maximum gas pressures as well as ignition pressures need to be set properly and checked. Also on earlier minis the detection and ignition leads came through the same port at back of pcb and were clamped together. I've had a few instances of these shorting together as too close. Reroute the grey detection wire to next port.
Also which pcb did he change? There are two in this boiler. The mini rarely gives much problem and is easy to fix with a great set of diagnostic lights on sequence board telling faults!

thanks

he most certainly did not check any pressures.
i wasnt happy with it really but he was a "homer" by my brothers friend so a bit cheaper and he came the same day.

I have been thinking of just biting the bullett and getting a warranty.

But after the helpful comments I think I just need a one off fix from a decent service engineer (I wish they were star rated !!).

Anyone know one in Kilmarnock, Ayrshire

I expect he changed the ignition PCB at the right. Under normal circumstances you would just "call him back" if his repair has not done the job. In this case he just seems to be a parts changer incapable of setting up the boiler properly.

Those PCBs do often become intermittent when they get a few years old.

However, the correct settings are vital if the boiler is to function correctly.
.

There was a very rare and difficult to identify fault with this model where the flame intermittently goes out after just a 1/2 second. .
This affected about one in a thousand boilers made around 2004.

You could see if Ideal will do a fixed price repair but thats likely to be expensive as its unlikely to need any parts. A better option is to call Biasi on 0121 506 1340, who actually make the boiler. They have a network of independent service engineers who just charge their own rates but they are more likely to know the boiler than an independent.

Of course any competent engineer would be able to check the settings but the unfortunate reality is that many engineers are just not very competent as you have discovered with your "homer" fellow. As they say, you usually get what you pay for!
