I'm going to fit thermostatic valves to my radiators & I've read that they must be fitted to the feed to work correctly. The previous owner of my house wasn't as competent at DIY as he thought he was & I'm not confident that the existing radiator on-off valves are fitted to the feed.

Is there a way of easily identifying which pipe is the feed on a radiator?

Modern trvs are usually bi-directional so it doesn't matter which end of the radiator they go on. Check to see that they have 2 arrows on the valve body.

If you turn your heating system on, the pipe to each rad that gets warm/hot first will be the flow.
