Identifying material

I’m replacing a surface mounted socket that was fitted above a skirting board but interested to identify the material circled in picture below. Appreciate that it is not a particularly helpful photo but seems to be a reddish pink material after the plaster. Any ideas what this is? Seems to be in too small sections (although difficult to see from photo) to be brick but I guess that’s most likely?

Looks like a couple of bricks to me, with the hole drilled through at an angle - possibly going through a frog?
 
I assume by ‘frog’ you mean some sort of elbow? Can’t see anything like that.
