Hi guys,

Just a quick one, what is the procedure for changing an emersion heater in a cylinder ???

After the electrical side does it just need unscrewing and do i need anything special to seal the new one other than the sealing ring, as i have seen a lot with gunk all over them.

After you have unscrewed the electrics, you need to unscrew the immersion using an immersion spanner.

Try tightening it first (slightly to break the seal) and unscrew it bearing in mind that you can damage the cylinder if you use too much force,

Worth using some potable jointing compound on the new one. :D

Fernox external Leak Sealer.

WHy PTFE SOftus? The thread isn't part of the seal. Have never used it on an immersion heater.

DOn't put any goo on the threads either.
If the old one won't undo easily, heat it up but beware of setting fire to insulation.

I use silicone grease on the threads and both sides of the boiler.

This protects the metal from water and corrosion and reduces friction thus increasing the pressure on the washer for the same torque.
