Hello all, I've been lurking around these forums for a while now. Lots of great useful information so thanks to all of the contributors so far :)

I am having great difficulty in finding an independent timber and damp specialist in Scotland that isn't in some way attached or affiliated with a company who provide the works. I am dubious s to use such a company for the inspection as the cynic in me says that they would obviously recommend loads of things if they knew they would get my business.

I have searched the heritage Scotland website and googled the subject to death but can find anyone.

A bit of a backstory on this; I have recently purchased a 250 year old stone built house in Angus in Scotland and had a "Damp and Timber" specialist come in as part of a pre mortgage survey which we elected to do. The survey threw up a whole host of issues in the house that we were prepared for and we went ahead with the purchase. The mortgage company didn't implement a retention so we haven't had to do any of the work so far. The house is not wreck by any means and just needs some tlc. The house is not listed or in a conservation area so we don't have any real restrictions on what we can or cannot do.

We are just looking for honest impartial advice about the condition of our lovely new house so that we can make informed decisions about how best to care for it from now on.

If anyone could point us in the right direction we would be massively grateful.

Thanks,
Sam.
