Inefficient boiler thermostat (thread no. 1) (WALL STAT) (Ed)

I've put an ordinary thermometer next to it. And I always have to set the boiler thermostat 2 degrees more to get the boiler to come on.

How well does it control temperature? It doesn't really matter if the numbers aren't accurate as long as it controls temperature.

Re CBW, just to bè sure what colour wire is the neutral?

Electricity cannot see colours.

Many people would use blue, but how will you test it to find out?

Usually blue as John says, and usually number 2 on those thermostats, but could have been wired wrong
