Light at the end of a long dismal tunnel .... Our Tel is lurking, why not bring back the man who never was? ( given a proper crack of the whip ).
Why do they pick the wrong bloke for the job? - Tis only by chance we get a good 'un - Perhaps only two thus far.. the Sirs Alf and Bobby R.
How did they overlook old Jackie C prior to his revitalisation of Ireland?

Looks like a need for an acceptably bland personality a 'yes' man.

The trouble is the FA want yes men.Myself,I think the late Brian Clough would of make a great England captain but he was out spoken, says what he mean, means what he says.He wouldn't put up with any nonsense from the players. If your getting good pay then you play good.No excuses.
I heard some excuses for their dismal performances.
"They were nervous and tense." :?
Good God,these guys are supposed to be professionals, they have to be able to handle it.There is no excuse. They played a team that were part-timers,way down the rattings list.As per usual England fluffed about, had no idea.Even though they won 3-0,it was a poor dis-play.
England needs a Manager who is going to kick ass when it is needed.
And the England players need to have their salaries reduce because they are not good enough.

Brian was good, damn good as a manager, I think he tended to be different just for the sake of it ... He liked a bit of nonsense, but jumped on others doing the same - Rumours of 'bungs' etc, maybe false, in a storm of the brown stuff, much of it sticks.

Bobby Robson, such an apparently genial man - played at the top level, won it all as a manager with the world's best players, albeit in foreign climes - I am thinking must be an iron fist in a velvet glove - Brimming with positive enthusiasm and above all, he loves the game - a genuine superstar.

Terry V a man with all the credentials, played at every level I believe, the odd bit of a 'Jack the Lad' could still be a runner, currently in the right place .. Unless he is actually 'spent' or 'gone' as a credible manager.

Remember Joe Mercer? he was a good England temporary manager in the early 70's, I think it was for a couple of month and England nearly won all their games(?)

I remember Joe and his sidekick Malc' Allison (fedora + cigar now scouting for the Arsenal??) at Manc City.
I just think Joe was a little too nice, but always good value.
:D

My opinion is you need someone like Alex Ferguson.Say what you like about the guy,but he has done so well for Man U.This Guy would have shoved his boot up the backsides of the English players, playing like they did.
The English players should hang their heads down in shame for playing like a load of Cr**

some oustanding observations above ...

Joey Mercer an Malcom Allison .....lol...very true......Bobby Robson,an old Cloughy ... top blokes

Terry Venables should take over but the FA will never sack this twonker mac ......
