Hi All

I'm keen to fit a timer to an existing lighting circuit (for security reasons).

The complication is that the light in on a dimmer switch. Will an inline timer object to feeding into a dimmer?

I can see another option: connect output from timer to L1 and return from dimmer to L2 of a double pole light switch (out of sight, eg with the timer), common connected onwards to the lamp. Switch then selects 'timed' or 'normal/dimmer operation'. But that seems rather overcomplicated... and maybe I've missed something??

Any thoughts??

Cheers!

if the contacts are mechanical or relay switched then fine.

electronic ones like the ones that dont need a neutral willl work eratically when the load is dimmed as they are subject to a minimum load
