A fascinating read about how dusty working conditions led to appalling death rates among the stonemasons who built Edinburgh New Town:

Note the bit towards the end reporting the current situation:

“between 2007 and 2013, six stonemasons between the ages of 24 and 39 were found to have developed silicosis while working in Edinburgh. .... none had been aware of the risks involved in their work”
 
Not surprising really. When I was getting my drive block paved, they were cutting the old paving slabs up with a concrete cutter and no wetting the area down or wearing a mask/respirator.
