Brother had two attempted robberies at his yarding and workshop facilities inside the last two weeks.

A beam runs 100m from one side to the other. It set the high pitched screamer off at 4:00am one morning. Hand prints were on the frosted gate they climbed over.
Thats three times within the last 14 months. First time they got away with £1500 worth of tooling.

Alarm cost £3k but its paying for itself already.
The battle against the thieves continues.
This time they went home empty handed. :D

Why don't you make an IED out of a shotgun cartridge?

Good idea. I do have a few boxes of cartridges.

Will I be arrested if it blows their leg off?

Maybe a deep covered pit with re bars sticking up would be better. Could say it was building works in progress.

You make it discharge safely but give them the idea that they are being fired upon.

I'm sure they remember that Martin guy who shot the gypo.

There are lots of good ideas like this. Unfortunately, they're all classed as "mantraps" and are illegal.

However, there's no law against spraying them with Smartwater, filling the workshop with smoke or setting off a bunch of signal flares/rockets!

Anti-climb paint is really yucky stuff - you could put this on top of the gate...

Has anyone ever seen or used the "electronic watchdog"? It's a speaker tha plays the sound of a big, scary dog barking. I saw it at a trade show in Germany in the late eighties - i didn't know whether to laugh or cry!

You can buy a ready made piece of kit to do this, gamekeepers use them, using a trip wire, around pheasant hatcheries etc. They fire blanks directly into the ground from about 4/6"

if internet connection is available (and Plusnet Value is only about £7 a month) then an IP CCTV camera with an alarm input and audio output may be useful in this sort of situation.

Alerts to a smartphone when triggered, and you can see the intruders on CCTV and shout at them to go away. It also provides confirmation of the intruder so you can request police attendance.

Oh yea, I remember, shot in the back while he was running away! Not on.

If someone is in your home stealing then surely your entitled to shoot him in the back.
The law is irellevant when your home is being ransacked by intruders. Anything goes.
