First Digit Protection against ingress of solid objects

0 No protection

1 Protection against large sized bodies such as hands

2 Protection against medium sized bodies such as fingers

3 Protection against small sized bodies 2.5mm dia. or larger such as tools & wires

I should have worded he question better, what are the letters IP short for? This was being asked at the wholesalers the other day and various answer were given?

And of course if you see a third digit, that is for impact resistance (although I've never seen that on any consumer kit).
