I removed my trusty old baxi bermuda back boiler late September and replaced it with a sparkling new Baxi 105he instant.

What a load of ****e. All i can say is, whoever said these things are efficient is having a laugh. My gas bill arrived the other day, OK so gas has gone up but i expected the so called saving on gas usage would counteract the increase.

My kids have been brought up to wash their hands after using the toilet and everytime they do the boiler kicks in, runs for a good few mins after they have turned off the tap then stops. I have now turned off the pre heat feature to see if this will make any difference.

I really do miss my lovely tank of stored hot water. Is there a way that the combi could be adapted to heat a tank then stay off till the tank needed re heating ? Or is the only way to rip this useless piece of metal from the wall and go back to the old way.

Yes you can connect a cylinder up using a Y plan in the normal way, just keep the combi side for the kitchen.

Agree with the pile of cr@p comment, Baxi like most of the Cheap bean cans have gone for maximum profit over reliability.

No idea what you mean by a Y piece.

Out of interest, is it simply a case of water is heated then sent to the tank ? or is it re circulated untill it is hot enough ?

If this is possible wouldnt the boiler still keep firing up when the kids have washed their hands because it will be replacing used water ?

Thanks.

just wandering, sorry to use this topic but why would the boiler fire up when running the cold tap iv had this happen on a w/b greenstar.

start another thread or use the search facility.

by the way. for y plan look on the honeywell site, that will give you the info

The cylinder will connect to the heating side of the boiler, using a flow share valve. It is then controlled with a cylinder stat etc.

Though I remain unconvinced that instant water heating is more efficient, I don't expect it is less efficient.

You must be heating the house more than before or using an inefficient dfe or ilfe fire or something like that.

Ok guy's

Thanks for the input to date, but please try to remember i am a simple guy who isn't used to all the technical jargon. I'll happily plaster walls all day but when it comes to plumbing :( takes me ages although i did manage to fit the combi and rip out the old system ok. Dont worry i never touched the gas. Lets not start that argument again

Isnt there a simple diagram i could look at that tries to explain how it all works. This is purely to see if it would be economically feesable to do this.

MAH : the boiler doesn't fire up when cold is used? don't know where you got that idea from ? Unless you thought we wash our hands in cold water :)

Paul when you say "You must be heating the house more than before or using an inefficient dfe or ilfe fire or something like that." you have lost me now :? what is a DFE ? We removed the gas fire as it was part of the old back boiler. I have now fitted one of those plasma fire things, purely for decoration.

Although i fitted the boiler months ago, i only sorted the hole where it all used to be just last week. still waiting for the new carpets

Just wished i hadn't thrown the old baxi in the skip :-(
Oh well..

Excuse my ignorance but is that a gas fire?

D.ecorative F.uel E.ffect

I.nset L.ive F.uel E.ffect

Both are gas guzzlers, but dfe is worst not the least because of the4 essential ventilation.

Natural Gas Central heating with SEDBUK Band B or Band A boiler is your cheapest way of heating your house and hot water.

You should not be paying more to heat your hot water with your combi than you would installing a cylinder.

There are other benefits to installing a cylinder, but now that you have what you have , as one of my customers says you've got to p***s with the c**k you've got.

Regarding that the boiler being HE means high efficiency, there is probably no doubt the boiler is much more efficient, but that doesn't automatically mean cheaper. As has been mentioned you could be heating the house more than before or maybe boiler/controls aren't set up correctly.

You seem to have implied that you fitted the boiler yourself and therefore perhaps the fire.

Its not obvious to me that its a plasma fire but if it is a catalyst type you ought to be aware of the person who was killed when a CORGI person fitted one and failed to measure the burner pressure which has been wrongly set and sealed at the factory.

They can be very dangerous! I hope you provided any ventilation required?

Tony
